Seven Things Students Want to Know
1. Am I in the right room?
On the first day of class, I will stand right outside my door directing students to their rooms, and greeting mine as they walk in. There will be a sign on my door with my name as well as on my board with the class period.
2. Where am I suppose to sit?
Students will be allowed to pick their own seat. Where they sit on the first day will be their seat for the rest of the year.
3. What are the rules in this classroom?
A brief list of rules will be posted at the front of the room all year long. This list will also be included in a letter home for parents.
4. What will I be doing this year?
I will go over the procedures on the first day, and continue to practice them for three weeks to make sure the students understand them for the rest of the year.
5. How will I be graded?
I will explain grading when I hand out the first assignment, quiz, and so on. I will give rubrics for any papers or projects that give details on how students will be graded.
6. Who is the teacher as a person?
I will create a “personality bulletin board” where I will post things about myself and discuss them briefly with the class on the first day of school.
7. Will the teacher treat me as a human being?
I will strive to be organized not only the first day, but every day of class. I will prepare a syllabus for the students to give them an outline of the years activities.
